Funny Gay Video

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

A friend shared to me this funny video in my Facebook wall. It is not just funny but there is a lesson in it, so I decided to share this with you guys. Sometimes we take people for granted. We never see their value because they are just always there for us. Sometimes we hurt them and we do not know, worst is we do not care. But when things go wrong and everybody is leaving, you will see the only person who stands by your side is the person that you repeatedly hurt in the past. The only person who accepts everything about you is the person that truly loves you. They are RARE so TREASURE them.

Rise and Fall

------------------------

In Queen of the Damned, Anne Rice’s third book in her Vampire Chronicles, Akasha awakes from her 6,000 years of slumber to save humanity by annihilating the cause of all chaos and misery – males. But before she carries out this carnage, she has to capture the vampire Lestat whose rock music awoke her from millennia of sleep. Together, the consort and the queen flew around the globe and used women as killing machines. To execute her plan to rule the world, Akasha, the mother of all vampires, has to obliterate her offspring who dispute her megalomania. With this, the battle between Akasha and her ultimate nemeses – the red haired twin witches Maharet and Mekare – comes to a heart-racing end.

Although Queen of the Damned is a mélange of stories before and after Akasha has risen from deep sleep, the characters become part of the chain in the final chapters revealing their history and what could destroy them all.

An atheist when she wrote this novel, Rice richly interspersed the plot with the occult, history, philosophy, and eroticism with the absence of sex. She had created powerful vampires that can set off Stephenie Meyer’s Edward Cullen to burst into flames with just a lift of an eyebrow.

Released in 1988, the novel brings the readers to places like the 18th century Paris, the pre-pyramid Egypt, The Himalayas, and the present day Miami. Rice’s writing is sensual, mesmerizing, and lyrical. And glorious is the word that sums it all.

"Ano yung masarap?" Monty said grinning.

Gawain niya iyon dito kapag naglalambing. Siyang-siya naman ang kumag kapag hinaharot niya.

Part 3: WHAT TYPE OF READER ARE YOU?

By: Jayson Patalinghug
email: king_sky92@yahoo.com
---------------------------------------
Please read and understand these theories first before you start reading and criticizing our works here. If you have questions and clarifications, you can send me email and I will get back to you.
---------------------------------------

Objective Reader

At this point we have already learned two types of readers. First, those who look at the relationship of the universe to the text (mimetic readers); Second, those who look at the relationship between the writer and his work (expressive readers); and now we will add another type of reader which is affected by structuralism. We call them objective readers.

An objective reader posits that every text is autonomous. History, biography, sociology, psychology, author’s intention and reader’s private experiences are all irrelevant. Any attempt to look at the author’s relationship to a certain piece of literature is called “Intentional Fallacy.” Any attempt to look at the reader’s individual response is called “Affective Fallacy.” Objective readers argue that each text has a central unity. The responsibility of the reader is to discover this unity. The reader’s job is to interpret the text, telling in what ways each of its parts contributes to the central unity. The primary interest is the theme. A story or poem is spoken by a persona (narrator or speaker) who expresses the attitude which must be defined and who speaks in a tone which helps define the attitude: ironic, straightforward or ambiguous. Judgements of the value of a text must be based on the richness of the attitude and the complexity and the balance of the text. The key phrases are ambivalence, ambiguity, tension, irony and paradox.

The reader's analysis of these elements leads him to an examination of the themes. A work is good or bad depending on whether the themes are complex and whether or not they contribute to the central, unifying theme. The more complex the themes are and the more closely they contribute to a central theme (unity) the better the work. Usually, objective readers define their themes as oppositions: Life and death, good and evil, love and hate, harmony and strife, order and disorder, eternity and time, reality and appearance, truth and falsehood, emotion and reason, simplicity and complexity, nature and art. The analysis of a text is an exercise in showing how all of its parts contribute to a complex but single (unified) statement about human problems.

The reader must look at the words, the syntax, the images, the structure (usually, "the argument"). The words must be understood to be ambiguous. (The more possible meanings a word has, the richer the ambiguity. The reader should search out irony (ambiguous meaning) and paradox (contradictory meaning, hence also ambiguity). The reader must discover tensions in the work. These will be the results of thematic oppositions, though they may also occur as oppositions in imagery: light versus dark, beautiful versus ugly, graceful versus clumsy. The oppositions may also be in the words chosen: concrete versus abstract, energetic versus placid).

Most readers who belong into this type are those who are well verse in the field of literature. Those who believed in the standards in writing fictions and familiar with the different literary elements.

Eight People We Want Dead

Thursday, December 23, 2010

By: Jefferson Cruz

------------------------

You are not a saint, admit it. You can’t love humanity like what Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul did, but you are  neither a devil. You’ve had an overdose of human bitchiness and asshole-ness which keep on sending a teeth-clenching feeling to your nerves. You forever detest these homo sapiens’ display of arrogance, selfishness, mercilessness and moronic attitude that you want to roast them with a flame thrower. These bastards’ egotism and power tripping makes you want to hurl them with a hand grenade or launch a nuclear bomb right in their faces. And if cursing could kill, these people you loathe must be buried six feet under by now. Vanished. Wiped out on the face of our beloved Earth.

History tells us that anger, rage, fury or whatever you call it had caused enough cataclysms to humanity. Hitler’s revenge had annihilated thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. Rage had caused World Wars aside from the network wars. Anger caused Muslims and Christians to eliminate each other. Resentment constructed the Berlin Wall. Fury propelled Bin Laden to target the World Trade Center and Pentagon and turn planes into bombs in the September 11 Bombings. Anger also triggers a wife to kick his husband’s ass, tie him up in bed the whole week and shave his mistress’s head. If we analyze the tragic events in history, we would know that anger had caused enough devastation which affected so many lives. This is enough reason to restrain us from getting carried away by our emotions, but why do we still want to exterminate idiots, jerks, freeloaders and the likes? If you experience loathing for these sub-humans, do not blame yourself. Abomination to these idiosyncrasies is nothing but normal.

"O-orly?"

"O-orly?" naguguluhang tawag niya rito.

"Aray! Bakit ba?" natatawang sabi nito habang umaarte ring nasaktan ang braso.

Stripping Natasha

--------------------------------
Natasha Bedingfield's music defines her as a woman who refuses to be put in a cage, someone who wants to break free from oppression and escape the monotonous system of things. These characteristics are all embodied in the first single from her latest album with the same title. Bedingfield sings in a liberating way that almost sounds like a melodic tirade: Take what you want/ Steal my pride/ Build me up/ Or cut me down to size/ Shut me out/ But I’ll just scream/ I'm only one voice in a million/ But you ain't taking that from me.

Artistic and passionate, Bedingfield is one of the few artists that is bursting with positive vibes. What makes her music soar in the charts is the way they inspire the listeners to feel good about themselves and others. This advocacy madeUnwritten from her debut album the most played song in the US in 2006.

This optimism is also evident in Touch, her buzz cut from her latest album: Every choice we make/ And every road we take/ Every interaction/ Starts a chain reaction. Touch spells an auditory ecstasy – begins in electro-slow rhythm, turns into a party-like tempo, and fades in a blissful pace. Strip Me  is a soulful theme that starts with a relaxed and happy La la la la, jumps into a melodious outburst and ends in a satisfying La la la. It summarizes the theme of the whole album:When it all boils down/ At the end of the day/ It’s what you do and say/ That makes you who you are.

Thanks to Almighty Jordan.

Part 2: WHAT TYPE OF READER ARE YOU?

Saturday, December 18, 2010

By: Jayson Patalinghug
Blog: www.jaysoncnu.blogspot.com
---------------------------------
This article is solely written to provide information and not to stereotype anyone. As a literature teacher I feel the burden of keeping the literary value of what we write and read in this blog. I hope this will serve its purpose and I would like to thank Mike, Dalisay and all MSOB followers for the support and attention they gave on my short articles.
---------------------------------

Expressive Reader

Thanks to those who read and share their thoughts on this post. This is written for educational purpose only and nothing more. It intends to help us understand what type of reader we are and how we decode every information we read.

In the previous post we have learned that there are readers who looked at a certain piece as a mirror of reality. This type of readers looks for archetypes that would bridge fictitious events, characters and setting into the real world.

Another type of readers are those who treat a literary work primarily in relation to the author. It defines a certain piece as an expression, or overflow, or utterance of feeling, or as product of the writer’s feelings. The theory tends to judge the work by its sincerity to the writer’s vision or the state of mind. Such views were developed mainly by the Romantic critics and remain current in our time too.

Expressive readers believe that authorial individuality is something to be conveyed by a literary work, and to go beyond objectivist theorists’ prescription that a writer’s effort should be to flee personality and that criticism should focus on the text and not to the writer.

If you are this type of reader then you must have chosen to read a certain story associated to your favorite writer. Some would ask, “Who wrote that story?” And after knowing the answer, they already pre-judged the work without even reading it. This is mainly what is happening to the PEBA competition where Mike Juha joined. There are readers who throw negative comments on his entry because what they have in their mind is that a gay themed story is written by a gay writer. Or they do not bother to read the entry anymore and judged it immoral because they know that the writer is gay and his works would only express homosexual immorality.

It is clear that readers influenced with this theory are more bias in their judgement. They do not analyze and criticize the text but they directly attack the one who wrote it.

A Bow to the Queen

Friday, December 17, 2010

By: Jefferson Cruz
email: jeff.scribbles@gmail.com
--------------------------------

After the success of the documentaries The War Room, The American Candidate, and American High, acclaimed film-maker R.J. Cutler takes us this time to the world of the legendary and revered American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The September Issue centers on the production of September 2007 issue, one of the most sought after Vogues ever. It is a glimpse to the fashion kingdom: glamorous, prestigious, and cutthroat.

Cutler has managed to compress 390 hours of footage to a 90-minute film that exposes the drama behind the photo shoots, editing, proofing, and the unending love-hate relationship between Anna and the former model turned creative director, Grace Coddington. The documentary presents Anna as more complicated than her fictional equivalent, Miranda Priestley (The Devil Wears Prada based on Lauren Weisberger's experience at Vogue). It is a zoom in on how Anna stands firmly on guard of her fashion empire. Viewers would fear Anna as she sets foot on the building ordering her editors, pulling out photos, scrapping pages of the lay out, and discharging an icy atmosphere that can send models shivering in their stilettos.

Cutler did not just emphasized Anna Wintour as the editor-in-chief. He also presented Anna as a human, as a mother. In the documentary, Anna recounts about her childhood dreams, her life as just an ordinary girl, and how her father decided that she should walk down the runway to Vogue.

The September Issue is not just about producing Vogue from scratch to gloss. It is more about how powerful women, Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, maintained Vogue as the fashion bible. At the end of the documentary, the viewers will agree without a doubt that if fashion is religion, Anna Wintour is the pope.

Part 1 : WHAT TYPE OF READER ARE YOU?

By: Jayson Patalinghug

Please read and understand these theories first before you start reading and criticizing our works here. If you have questions and clarifications, you can send me email and I will get back to you.

MIMETIC READERS

In this blog we deal with a lot of reading and criticism. It is expected because this is a literary blog. You are dwelling with different types of writers with different taste and style. Some writings may inspire us and some may frustrate us and there are some that might offend us. This is the very reason why I write this article. It aims to guide our readers to be civil and to avoid discrimination on someone else works.

Criticism and discrimination are two different things. Criticism involves analysis and sound judgement while discrimination is very subjective and most of the time illogical. Let us not discriminate because in this blog we encourage everyone to read and write. If we discriminate, we are killing the literary desire of an individual. It destroys a dream of someone whose soul is filled with hope and aspiration. Remember that literature reflects life itself.

In order to criticize a certain piece of work, one must understand the different literary theories. There are many literary theories to mention, but I will focus only to those that are already established and used in the academe.

There are four foundation theories in literary criticism; The Mimetic, Expressive, Objective, and Affective. In this post we will only discuss the first theory and the rest will be tackled in succeeding posts.

Mimetic theory is considered as the universal foundation of literature and schools of literary criticisms. Mimeses is an idea that literature imitates reality, an idea that traces back to Plato who believed that reality only exist in the mind and to Aristotle who believed that the universal can be found in the concrete. This idea is developed in the visual arts during the renaissance and the enlightenment.

Philosophers and writers including Aristotle, Plato, Moliere, Shakespeare, Racine, Diderot, and Rousseau applied mimetic theory of literary criticism to their works and lives; modern thinker such Benjamin, Derrida, and Girard have reworked and reapplied their ideas.

A Mimetic reader aims to determine how well a work of literature connects with real world. It can be broadened to include approaches that deal with the spiritual and symbolic, the images that connect people of all times and cultures. They analyze the accuracy of a literary work and its morality. They consider whether or not it shows how people really act, and whether or not it is correct. A mimetic reader assesses a literary work through the prism of his or her own time, judging the text to his own value system.

This theory is best used to reflect on social realities reflected on a certain text. A mimetic reader does not read and analyze the text as it is. They go beyond imagination looking on symbols and archetypes. These symbols will link the fictitious event, characters and settings into the real world. Example to this is the novel written by C.S. Lewis entitled The Chronicles of Narnia. Aslan is not just a magical lion, He is a representation of JESUS. Why? A Christian reader would know as it is written in the book of Geneses chapter 49 verses 8-12, Revelations chapter 5 verses 8-10 and chapter 6 verses 12-17. A mimetic reader always look for meaning and links that would bridge the fiction he or she is reading into what is existing in the real world.

Sometimes there are mimetic readers who are very close minded and only focus on their own set of standards and value system. This happens when the reader’s subjective bias leads to dogmatic condemnation and censorship.  Many works otherwise labelled aesthetically great have been black listed, banned or burned throughout the history by moral critics or shall we say hypocrites. A few of these banned works are "Ulysses" by James Joyce, "Candide" by Voltarie, "Leaves of Grass" by Walt Whitman, works by Jean Jacques Rousseau and "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewall.

Today we are faced with this kind discrimination. An example is our friend Mike Juha who received a lot of negative feedback about his gay themed blog. These people are concerned with what they call morality basing on their own standards. Their minds are closed to what they believe is moral. They have forgotten to be logical in criticizing a work of literature. They have forgotten to read beyond letters and look for symbols and archetypes that would open the door in deeper understanding the realities that is happening in our society. After all we are reading a Literature of Life.

Recalling the Virgins by Jefferson Cruz

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

After reading the first sentence of Jeffrey Eugenides's The Virgin Suicides, you fit into the shoes of one of the teenage voyeurs in the novel. From a distance you observe people's behaviors as a prelude to a series of disasters slowly progressing. And just like the other teenage boys in the neighborhood, you would like to see and touch the beautiful Lisbon sisters. But then you get distressed when the objects of your fantasies, Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese, commit suicide one by one in a course of a year. A decade after the sisters' death, you start to piece together the puzzle from what you can take out from your memory. You start to solve the mystery by laying down the evidences and recounting the possibilities that could have triggered the suicides.

One of Eugenides' strongest qualities as a writer is his ability to ignite intrigue and mystery at the same time from start to finish. The novel welcomes readers with a concise narration of several suicides, focuses on the last, and flashbacks to the events before Cecilia's (the youngest sister) first suicide attempt.

The Virgin Suicides is a novel about the obsession for the inexplicable desire for the opposite sex which is forever unattainable. Perusing the novel requires much participation from the reader. It evokes emotion to the point of melancholy. At the end, you will conclude that there is only one word to perfectly describe Jeffrey Eugenides's The Virgin Suicides – elegiac.

 (Another Accident)

This is a story of my friend and his partner for 6 years. Grabe ang tagal na ninyo guys. Congrats.

To all my readers at sa readers ng LOL. Here is a diversion from the Task Force Enigma ko. Maiksi lang ito. Promise. :))

Bati mode.

CHAPTER 1 (The Accident)

A second year Education student.

May taas na 5'11", 19 years old at medium built ang pangangatawan.

Chapter 17 : Task Force Enigma: Rovi Yuno

"Those Son of bitches!!!"

Whoever designed the whole place has death on mind.

Bobby kissed him senseless making him hot all over. His lips teased. Forcing him to open so that he can fully invade his mouth. Making him aware of his arousal underneath the clothes he’s wearing.

His tongue invaded his. Rovi cried from the pleasurable pain he encountered. He felt like a strong wind was carrying him.

I'm BACK!!!

But I'll live. Kahangalan man, maghihintay ako. Hanggang pwede na ulit tayo...

--------------------------------------

‘Sige.’’ Sagot niya.

Prayer of an Abused Child

Friday, December 3, 2010

"Dear Mr. Jesus" is written by Richard Klender and popularized by Power Source, an American contemporary Christian musical group from Bedford Texas.

Recorded in 1985, "Dear Mr. Jesus" featured group member Sharron Batts, then 6 years old, on lead vocals. The song appeared on Power Source album "Shelter from the Storm". It hit the radio stations on 1987 which is timely, as it came shortly  after the story of Elizabeth "Liza" Steinberg, a 6-year-old New York girl beaten to death by her adopted father Joel Steinberg in November 1987.

The lyrics of  "Dear Mr. Jesus"  deal with child  abuse and is sung from  the perspective of a little girl writing a letter to Jesus, expressing her concerns after seeing a news report about a "little girl beaten black and blue" by her parents. At the end of the song, the narrator concludes her letter by saying , "Please don 't tell my daddy, but my mommy hits me too."

Chapter 31 : Ang Kuya Kong Crush ng Bayan (ending)

------------------------------------------

“Go to your room Jason! Now!” utos niya.
